The Augmented 8 notes with sadness, the passing of our distinguished alumnus, Bob Abernethy, on May 2, 2021, who enjoyed an illustrious career at NBC news and then on PBS as host of Religion and Ethics Newsweekly. The New York Times published his obituary here.
For almost 30 years, the Augmented 8 has hosted “Sing Out for Shelter” to raise funds for Christ House, Friendship Place, and Metropolitan House to support the work they do for persons experiencing homelessness in Washington, D.C.
Rainy days keep us all inside, not totally unlike a pandemic, but music helps to make it better. With that in mind, the Augmented 8 present Oak Thorne’s arrangement of “Here’s That Rainy Day.”
Scott O’Gorman, who died April 3, 2020 at the age of 87, was a beloved member of the Augmented 8. He sang with the group for over forty years from 1964 to the early 2000’s.

Originally founded at an all-male Yale in 1952 as the Duke’s Men of Yale, Doox is the university’s first all-gender tenor/baritone/bass a cappella singing group, with a repertoire that is an exciting mix of old favorites and contemporary hits (from Rodgers and Hart to Queen to Rihanna).
We celebrate the life and mourn the loss of Bill Koplowitz, who died peacefully at home on September 26th. Loving husband of the late Maria Albanese Koplowitz, a cherished brother, father, grandfather and friend to many, we were graced with Bill’s intelligence, wit, humor and generosity for 94 years.
