Sing Out for Shelter Performers

Your host, and organizer for the past 31 years, The Augmented Eight is a men’s a cappella group that has entertained Washington audiences for over 65 years with a blend of old standards, modern pop, jazz, show tunes, and the occasional surprise.

DaCadence has just recently advanced to the regional competition of the ICCA, the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. The group is an all-gendered a cappella group that was first created in 2011. DaCadence strives to stimulate scholarship through advancing music and performance skills. With a Fall and Spring concert, along with competitions and creating albums, DaCadence offers students a chance to find a family while covering today’s most popular songs!

Vocal Point is an a cappella group at the University of Delaware. The group was started in 1998 with an 80’s music focus. Today, Vocal Point has branched out a great deal from its 80’s origins, singing songs by Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Lawrence, Christina Aguilera, and many others! We continue today as a fun-loving group of college students with a passion for singing.

The Virginia Gentlemen were founded in 1953 making them UVA’s first a capella group. Over the years, “The VG’s” as they are affectionately known, have grown to great renown. The VG’s are known for their annual cruises and performances at the White House, across the US, and all seven continents. The Virginia Gentlemen are available to listen to on all major streaming platforms including YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music!
The 31st Annual Sing Out for Shelter (SOS) concert to benefit organizations that serve homeless men and women is organized by the Augmented Eight, a non-profit, men’s a cappella singing group that has performed for Washington audiences for over 60 years. This year’s concert of a cappella vocal music will once again benefit three local organizations that serve the more than 30,000 individuals who experience homelessness each year in the Greater Washington DC Region – Friendship Place, Christ House, and National United Methodist’s own Transitional Housing and Services Ministry.
These concerts have raised over $330,000 over the past thirty years. In October, 2010, Friendship Place honored the Augmented Eight with the 13th annual Benjamin E. Cooper Award recognizing outstanding contributions by members of the Washington DC community to the cause of ending homelessness.
The National United Methodist Church is located at 3401 Nebraska Avenue, NW, Washington, DC, 20016, on the corner of New Mexico Ave and Nebraska Ave, across Nebraska Ave from the American University.
